The winter adult league is a fundraiser for MAYSL’s youth programs, and it’s designed to be a casual, recreational soccer experience for the greater Oakhurst community of soccer-loving friends. 2026 was its first season.

The season runs for 8 weeks, starting in early January, with games on Saturdays.

Teams are 10-15+ players, coed, strictly 18 and over. Sign up with friends, make your own team, or we’ll be happy to place you on one. Teams should be big enough that players can miss some games – this is supposed to be fun and low-commitment – and should have enough women that they can keep 2 or more on the field during games.

7v7 games will be hosted at the YHS field where MAYSL hosts U12 games.

If you live closer to Mariposa, check out Mariposa Soccer’s Adult League. It’s a wonderful program and inspired us to start playing in Oakhurst.

Season Guide

This is a casual co-ed league. We accept all ages, 18-and-over, so please be mindful that we will have a wide spectrum of physical abilities and soccer skills on the field.

Referees will oversee games whenever possible. If no regular ref is available, we’ll look for experienced players from the league. This should be a safe place for aspiring referees to gain experience in a low-stakes environment.

Practices are optional. Some teams will do it, some won’t – it’s up to each team.

Participation is at your own risk. All players are required to sign a liability waiver.

Pre-Season

  • Soccer cleats are absolutely required.
  • Shin guards are optional.
  • Team jerseys will be provided by the league.
  • All players must be registered with the league and sign a liability waiver.

Pre-Game

  • The league will provide game balls.
  • Captains should verify they have enough women to keep 2 on the field. If it will be a challenge, look for subs from other teams.
  • Captains should discuss mercy rules.
  • Adjust competition size as appropriate for player availability, skill, and fitness: play 7v7, 8v8, or 9v9, but smaller-sided games are better on that field.
  • Practices are not league events – practice as you like, or don’t. Up to you where, when, and if.

Rules

  • Substitutions are hockey style: exit the game and return as needed, don’t wait for the ball to be out of play or the ref to acknowledge.
  • Coed: at least 2 women on the game field at all times (not including goalkeepers).
  • Slide tackling is absolutely forbidden.
  • Cleats without a toe cleat are required. Metal cleats are not permitted.
  • Shin guards are recommended but not required.
  • Score will be kept by the referees and reported to the league admins. This is all for fun, but so are league standings!

IFAB Law 12.4: “The yellow card communicates a caution and the red card communicates a sending-off…. A player is cautioned if guilty of: …dissent by word or action; …persistent offences; unsporting behaviour”

  • Yellow cards will be thrown early for talking back to the referees. We want to keep the vibe fun and family-friendly. Arguing with the refs heats things up fast, and we need to calm it down just as quickly, so we can’t tolerate unsportsmanlike treatment of our officials.
  • A red card issued to a player means that player must leave the field and surrounding area for the remainder of that day, and may not participate in any other league games that day, as a substitute or regular player.
  • 2 red cards issued to a player across 2 weekends will result in suspension from participating in any games the following week.
  • 3 red cards issued to a player means that player will be excused from the league and may not participate in any games for the remainder of the season, without refund.

Substitutions

  • Registered players may join other teams only during the regular season.
  • A team may borrow only enough players to have 2 substitutes for their game.
  • When choosing between smaller-sided games (7v7 or 8v8) or 9v9 with borrowed players, the league prefers smaller-sided games.

2027 Season Structure

The season will last 8 weeks:

  • 4 Saturdays of regular season play
    • Subs allowed
    • Late signups accepted
  • 3 Saturdays of playoffs that will decide the tournament bracket
    • No subs allowed
    • No more signups
  • 1 Saturday for the end-of-season championship
    • No subs allowed
    • The new Winter Blast Coed League Kings and Queens of the Mountain will reign for a year!

The season will most likely begin on the 2nd weekend of January (1/9) and end 8 weeks later (2/27).

The end-of-season tournament will consist of 40m games, with two 15m halves and a 10m halftime.
